Mike and Yves came together with old friends the ‘couple de sonneurs’ Jean Pierre Cadic and Jean-Luc Le Mouël in early 2003 to form Jacal as a ‘meeting ‘ between two duos, to perform for Fest Noz. Their four strong voices, singing in French, Gallo, Breton and English, give a strong element of song unusual for an instrumental group. The repertoire is original, and is highly varied , and played with ‘oomph’ subtlety and simplicity. The end-result is an authentic traditional sound which takes the dancers for a veritable ‘tour’ of all the principal Breton repertoires, as well as dances from elsewhere.
